"Complete renovation" is a term you hear often, but it's not always clear exactly what it includes. In this article we'll break it down step by step — so you know exactly what to expect from the moment you decide to the day you get the keys.
What does a "complete renovation" actually mean?
A complete renovation touches every system in the apartment — not just paint or tiling in one spot. It typically includes demolition and construction, plumbing, electrical work, flooring throughout the apartment, a kitchen, aluminum work (windows and shutters) and a full paint job. In other words — the apartment is stripped down almost to its shell and rebuilt.
The work stages, one after another
- Planning — site visit, measurements, choosing materials and finishes, final price quote
- Demolition — tearing down internal walls (if needed), debris removal, exposing the base structure
- Structural work — building drywall walls, layout changes if needed
- Plumbing and electrical — all piping and wiring, done before the walls are closed up
- Flooring and tiling — floors throughout the apartment, wall cladding in the kitchen and bathrooms
- Kitchen and aluminum — installing kitchen cabinets, windows and shutters
- Decorative finish — microcement, Venetian plaster or paint — the layer you see every day
- Final touches — interior doors, light fixtures, a final walkthrough and small fixes
How long it really takes
Important to know: a complete renovation of a 60–80 m² apartment takes 3–5 months on average. A larger apartment or one with significant structural changes can take 4–7 months. If someone promises a complete renovation in a month, it's worth asking questions.
What to prepare in advance
- A budget with a buffer — it's recommended to add 10-15% for the unexpected, especially in older apartments
- Alternative housing — a complete renovation almost always means not living in the apartment
- Early decisions — the more you decide in advance (colors, models), the fewer delays mid-project
