Clients in Ra'anana wanted an aluminum fence with horizontal louvers — seemingly an ordinary order. But the plot had one catch: the boundary didn't run in a straight line, it ran in a curve. Louvers can be factory-curved to the needed radius, but that's an expensive operation that's usually not worth it for a private home.

The Problem: Straight Louvers on a Curved Boundary

A standard installation uses long straight segments between posts. On a flat, straight plot, that's the fastest and most economical approach. But when the fence line follows a curve, that kind of segment either won't physically fit, or it ruins the whole look — you'll see the angle between the straight panel and the curved wall line. Ordering factory-curved louvers is possible, but it multiplies the project cost and usually doesn't make sense for a private plot — we offered a more practical solution.

The Solution: Short Segments, a Post at Every Joint

We broke the curve into a series of short straight spans — 30 cm each — with a separate post at every joint. The segments came out short enough that the breaks between them simply aren't visible: the eye reads the line as a smooth curve, not a broken one.

The shorter the segment, the less noticeable the angle between adjacent spans — which is exactly why a 30 cm step gave a visually smooth line on this plot's curve. For a different curvature, the step might be different: we determine it on-site, after measuring.

Along the Way — A New Pergola Instead of the Old Canopy

As part of the same project, we tore down the old canopy in the yard and put up a new aluminum pergola — we already told that story separately.

The fence and the new pergola in the yard now read as a single set — light aluminum, clean horizontal lines, and not one visible break along the plot's entire curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you build an aluminum louver fence on a curved plot?

Yes. Louvers can be factory-curved to the needed radius, but that's an expensive operation that's usually not worth it for a private home. The more practical solution is to build the curve out of a series of short straight segments (30 cm each in our project) with a post at every joint. At that short a length, the breaks are not visually noticeable and the line looks smooth.

Won't a fence made of short segments look like a broken line?

The shorter the segment, the less noticeable the angle between adjacent spans. At a step of about 30 cm on a typical plot curve, the eye reads the line as smooth, not broken.

How much does an aluminum fence cost to install on a non-standard plot?

The price depends on the fence length, the complexity of the plot's boundary (more turns and posts mean more labor), and the segment height. We give an exact quote after a site visit and measurement.

What do I do if I need a fence on an awkwardly shaped plot?

We come to the site, measure the actual geometry of the boundary, and propose a technical solution — for example, breaking it into short segments, as in this project. The consultation and site visit are free and non-binding.

Is your plot an awkward shape, and someone told you it won't look good?

We'll come, take a look on-site, and propose a solution — even if the boundary runs in a curve or a broken line
